Hybrid articulating boom lift rental – one machine for indoors and outdoors

Hybrid articulating boom lifts combine two drives in one machine: a combustion engine for travelling over rough terrain and an electric drive for working in enclosed spaces without local emissions. The term Bi-Energy is also commonly used. Luibl Rental rents out hybrid articulating boom lifts with working heights up to 49 metres – delivered by low-loader to your site, throughout the Netherlands.

The benefit lies not in the technology itself, but in the fact that a project can manage with one machine instead of two. Exactly where outdoor and indoor work follow one another, this saves an entire transport run.

When the hybrid drive pays off

For purely indoor use, the electric articulating boom lift is the more economical choice; for continuous outdoor work, the diesel version. Hybrid pays off in four situations:

  • Switching between outdoors and indoors on the same project – for example facade work followed by installation in the hall, without changing machines.
  • Sites without a reliable power supply – the combustion engine recharges the battery, while electric operation remains available.
  • Emission- or noise-sensitive environments – city centres, hospitals, food businesses, heritage conservation. In electric mode, the machine works without local emissions and considerably more quietly.
  • Long working days – where a purely battery-powered machine would reach its runtime limit, the second drive bridges the gap.

Machines in the rental fleet

In the hybrid segment we carry, among others, the Niftylift HR 21 Hybrid and HR 28 Hybrid as well as the Genie Z60-37FE. The series cover the range from around 20 metres up to the top class and are designed for alternating operation – four-wheel drive and oscillating axles for rough terrain, non-marking tyres for sensitive floors.

Which machine fits depends less on the drive than on working height, outreach and basket load. More weight in the basket reduces the permitted outreach – so tell us the work point, set-up location and load.

What to consider in hybrid operation

Switching between the drives is straightforward for the operator, but you should plan for two points:

  • Charging time. Electric operation is only available while the battery is charged. For longer indoor phases, plan for intermediate charging or alternating operation.
  • Dead weight. Two drivetrains mean more mass than a purely electric machine. Check the permitted point load at the set-up location and the load-bearing capacity of floors and access routes in advance.

For safe operation, as with any aerial work platform: the operator must have been instructed in line with applicable Dutch health and safety rules, and personal fall protection equipment is mandatory on the platform. Every machine leaves our rental fleet with a valid periodic inspection of work equipment under the Working Conditions Decree and complete documentation.

How much does a hybrid articulating boom lift cost?

The rental price depends on the same factors as for the other designs: working height, outreach, rental period and transport. Hybrid machines are usually priced above the comparable electric and diesel versions because two drivetrains are installed. This becomes economical where they replace a second machine or an additional transport – the higher daily rate is then offset by a saved delivery.

Daily, weekly and monthly rates are tiered. Delivery and collection are shown separately and depend on transport distance, transport weight and access. Included are the inspected machine, maintenance and periodic inspections during the rental period as well as technical advice.

Tell us the working height, required outreach, ground conditions, rental period and location – you will receive an itemised quote. All designs at a glance: Articulating boom lift rental, the full range in the rental fleet.

FAQ: hybrid articulating boom lift rental

chevronDown

What does hybrid mean for an articulating boom lift?

The machine has two drives: a combustion engine for travelling on site and an electric drive for working in enclosed spaces. The term Bi-Energy is also used for this. In electric mode, the platform operates with zero local emissions and much more quietly.

When is hybrid better than electric or diesel?

Whenever outdoor and indoor work follow each other in the same project, when there is no reliable power supply on site or when the environment is sensitive to emissions and noise. For pure hall use the electric version is cheaper, for continuous outdoor work the diesel version.

How high does a hybrid articulating boom lift reach?

In the hybrid segment our rental fleet covers working heights of up to 49 metres. More decisive than height alone is usually the outreach: it determines how far from the set-up position you can work without repositioning the machine.

Do I need to charge the battery in between?

Electric operation is available as long as the battery is charged. The combustion engine recharges it during operation. For longer indoor phases you should plan a recharge or alternating operation - this belongs in the job planning, not in improvisation on site.

Is the machine heavier than a purely electric platform?

Yes. Two drivetrains mean more mass. So check the permissible point load at the set-up location and the load-bearing capacity of access routes and intermediate floors in advance. We will tell you the dead weight of every model.

What qualification does the operator need?

As with any aerial work platform, the operator must be instructed and have the required competence in line with applicable Dutch health and safety rules. Personal fall protection is used on the platform, in line with the rules for work at height under the Working Conditions Decree. Your staff receive a briefing on the specific machine on handover.

How is the platform delivered?

With our own low-loader fleet we deliver by low-loader to your site, throughout the Netherlands. Machines of this class require specialised transport equipment. Clarify access and space for unloading in advance – this is the most common cause of delays.

Has the machine been periodically inspected?

Every machine leaves our rental fleet with a valid periodic inspection of work equipment under the Working Conditions Decree and complete technical documentation. Maintenance and recurring inspections during the rental period are included in the rental price.
