Heavy-duty telehandlers are used when heavy machinery and components need to be moved safely and positioned precisely. Typical applications include machine relocations, plant and steel construction, and port and industrial logistics. When choosing the right model, the decisive factors besides the load weight are in particular the load centre, lift height, reach, attachment, ground conditions and available space. Luibl supports the technical selection of equipment and organises delivery with its own low-loader fleet – throughout the Netherlands and across Europe on request.

The rental fleet: 7 models from Merlo and Manitou

While standard telehandlers usually reach their capacity limit at a load capacity of 5 to 6 tonnes, Luibl Rental offers heavy-duty telehandlers with load capacities from 7,200 to 33,000 kg. Delivery is made with our own low-loader fleet – throughout the Netherlands and across Europe on request. Luibl has the following heavy-duty telehandlers available for rent – all serviced, fully fuelled and with a current inspection certificate:

  • Merlo P. 72.10 – 7,200 kg | 9.40 m lift height | 5.20 m reach | 5.35 Ă— 2.33 Ă— 2.44 m
  • Merlo P. 120.10 HM – 12,000 kg | 9.80 m lift height | 5.30 m reach
  • Manitou MHT 10120 – 12,000 kg | 9.62 m lift height | 5.35 m reach | 5.95 Ă— 2.50 Ă— 2.90 m
  • Manitou MHT 10160 – 16,000 kg | 9.60 m lift height | 5.20 m reach | 6.15 Ă— 2.48 Ă— 2.99 m
  • Manitou MHT 10200 ST5 – 19,999 kg | 9.70 m lift height | 5.40 m reach | 6.70 Ă— 2.58 Ă— 2.98 m
  • Manitou MHT 11250 ST5 – 24,999 kg | 10.60 m lift height | 6.00 m reach
  • Manitou MHT 12330 – 33,000 kg | 11.92 m lift height | 6.60 m reach | 8.37 Ă— 2.98 Ă— 3.60

All machines leave our depot after a load test of the load moment limiter (LMB). Inspection certificates, handover reports and technical data sheets on ground pressure are available on request.

Manitou MHT: heavy loads on rough terrain

Not every heavy-duty job takes place on a level hall floor. In bridge construction, mining or when handling wind turbine components, the ground is often the biggest challenge for stability. The Manitou MHT series at Luibl Rental features permanent four-wheel drive, three steering modes and high ground clearance, and moves loads of up to 33 tonnes even on unpaved terrain.

The hydrostatic transmission ensures smooth starts under full load – an important factor when manoeuvring heavy loads on slopes with centimetre precision.

Merlo P series: compact heavy-duty handling for halls and confined areas

The Merlo P models cover the lower load capacity range of the heavy-duty fleet (7,200–12,000 kg) and, thanks to their more compact dimensions, are suitable for applications with limited space, for example in factory halls or for machine relocations.

Applications: where heavy-duty telehandlers prove their worth

Applications for heavy-duty telehandlers

  • Heavy industry and plant installation: positioning transformers, presses and reactor components precisely

  • Wind power and energy projects: installing nacelles, rotor blades and tower segments on narrow routes around the foundations

  • Bridge and civil engineering: placing precast elements and steel girders – often without an additional mobile crane

  • Port logistics and handling: moving heavy steel segments on confined sites without fixed crane runways

  • Tandem lifts: two heavy-duty telehandlers working in coordination – for loads that one machine cannot handle alone

Practical example: the tandem lift solution

In a port logistics project, steel segments weighing 20 tonnes had to be moved. Instead of setting up a 300-tonne mobile crane, we opted for the coordinated use of two heavy-duty telehandlers in a tandem lift. Thanks to radio remote control, a single banksman was able to keep both machines in view. Result: cost savings compared with a crane, and both telehandlers were available for other tasks on site after the load had been set down.

Safety: ground pressure, LMB and user obligations

With loads above 10,000 kg, components and ground are under high stress. On request, we supply the technical data sheet on ground pressure and check the outrigger loads with you in advance. User obligations under the Working Conditions Decree, Chapter 7 (work equipment):

  • Operators must have the required competence, to be ensured by the employer, in line with applicable Dutch health and safety rules

  • Check the load chart before every lift – essential for heavy loads

  • Risk assessment including ground inspection before commissioning (load-bearing ground: asphalt, concrete or heavily compacted gravel; on soft ground: consider a road plate solution)

  • On public roads: clarify approval under the Dutch Road Traffic Act 1994 in advance

Delivery with our own low-loader fleet

Heavy-duty telehandlers with dead weights of up to 49 tonnes require specialised transport. Luibl has its own low-loader fleet designed for transporting this class of machine – including coordination of the necessary permits for exceptional transport:

  • Delivery on the agreed date directly to the site or company premises

  • Collection after the end of the rental included – no third-party haulier required

  • Delivery throughout the Netherlands; across Europe on request

  • Permits for oversize and heavy transport are coordinated by us

FAQ: heavy-duty telehandler rental

chevronDown

Who is allowed to operate a heavy-duty telehandler?

Operators must be at least 18 years old, have the necessary operator competence in line with applicable Dutch health and safety rules and be assigned in writing by the employer. On public roads, a C or CE licence is required, depending on the gross weight.

What is the delivery time?

Subject to availability, heavy-duty telehandlers can be supplied at short notice. Because of the transport logistics and any permits required, we recommend a lead time of at least 1-2 weeks.

What ground conditions are required?

Due to the high dead weight, a load-bearing surface (asphalt, concrete or heavily compacted gravel) is essential. For soft ground we will gladly advise you on solutions with ground mats.

What is a tandem lift and when is it worthwhile?

In a tandem lift, two heavy-duty telehandlers are used in a coordinated way to lift loads that one machine cannot handle alone. The method is often considerably cheaper than using a mobile crane and has the advantage that both machines can be used flexibly for other tasks on site once the lift is complete.

Which transport permits are required?

Heavy-duty telehandlers regularly exceed the standard dimensions for road transport. As part of the low-loader delivery, Luibl fully coordinates all required permits and exemptions for abnormal transport – the hirer does not have to deal with any of this.

What is the maximum load capacity of the heavy-duty telehandlers at Luibl?

The most powerful model in the Luibl fleet is the Manitou MHT 12330 with a load capacity of 33,000 kg. The range starts at 7,200 kg (Merlo P. 72.10) and includes seven models in different load classes - from compact heavy-duty machines to the heavyweight for industrial projects.
