Do you need access at height without wasting space? Mast lifts are made for exactly that — compact, precise, ready for immediate use. At Luibl you choose from a European fleet of JLG, Haulotte and Manitou machines, delivered at short notice. We treat your enquiry as a project, not a standard request. Whether a mast lift or a scissor lift suits your job better is shown in the overview Lift types compared; further types can be found under Aerial work platform rental.

Why a mast lift is the ideal rental solution for indoor areas

Mast lifts differ fundamentally from scissor lifts: they need only a fraction of the floor space, run on electric power (no local emissions) and leave no marks on the floor. This makes them the standard choice for warehouses, production halls and sensitive indoor areas.

The core: the telescopic mast
The vertically extending mast reaches its working height without needing space at the side. Unlike articulating boom lifts, the pure mast lift needs no boom — it travels vertically. That is the decisive advantage in confined areas. Models such as the JLG Toucan or the Haulotte Star fit easily through doors (less than 1 m wide) and into standard goods lifts.

Floor loading is not a problem
All our mast lifts have non-marking tyres. This means industrial parquet, epoxy floors and even carpet remain undamaged. The point load is minimal — thanks to the low dead weight and the wide tyre contact area.

Operation is intuitive
Worried about operating errors? The single-joystick control is no secret — within 10 minutes every operator understands the basic movements. We offer a free on-site briefing. That saves you training days.

Applications: from racking maintenance to event set-up

Warehouse logistics and racking maintenance
In high-bay warehouses the mast lift is indispensable. Stocktaking at 8–13 m height, replacing lighting, inspecting racking — without the effort of scaffolding. The working width stays minimal and the machine can keep the aisles clear at the same time.

Electrical and HVAC installation
New power lines above production lines? Mounting an air duct? Here the mast lift is more flexible than conventional aerial work platforms. With 200 kg load capacity in the basket you can easily take small materials and tools up with you.

Ceiling installation and restoration
Museums, churches, historic buildings — wherever scaffolding is not wanted. The mast lift is fully removable, leaves no damage and allows precise work under heritage conservation requirements.

Event and exhibition set-up
Lighting rigging, suspended structures, decorations in sports halls — the electric mast lift is quiet, odour-free and perfect for indoor events.

Trades on site
Plumber at the gutter? Electrician on the facade? With the mobile mast lift you save scaffolding and permits. Daily rental costs less than set-up time.

Technical difference: vertical lift vs. articulating mast lift

A common misconception: not all compact aerial work platforms are mast lifts.

Mast lift (vertical)
Pure vertical lift without outreach. Works straight up above the base. Ideal for spot work and indoor areas. Examples: JLG Toucan 12E, Haulotte Star 10.

Articulating boom lift for obstacles
Mast arm with a rotating upper arm. Provides outreach — important when obstacles have to be bypassed. Example: Manitou VJR 100 with 345° slewing. Needs a little more space, but offers more flexibility.

For high warehouse racking or ceiling cable work you usually need the pure mast lift. For facades or work around obstacles (poles, cables) the articulating lift has the advantage.

Safety standards and compliance

Mast lifts are regulated. That is not a nuisance — that is protection.

Dutch health and safety rules:
Applicable Dutch health and safety rules set requirements for inspection, operation and maintenance. We meet all deadlines.

NEN-EN 280:
The safety standard for mobile elevating work platforms. It governs how the basket is secured, which fall protection measures apply and how hydraulic lines are protected.

IPAF/PAL Card:
Recommended for operators. A compact certificate proving that the operator can use the machine safely. Many clients require it. We accept existing certificates and provide an operator briefing on handover.

Check before rental:
We check the ground bearing capacity at your site. At project start you send us photos and plans. If risks arise, we agree on solutions (ground protection mats, load reduction).

FAQ: mast lifts

chevronDown

Can I drive the mast lift when it is elevated?

Yes, most of our mast lifts can be driven at full height. This saves time, as you do not have to lower the machine for every small change of position. However, this requires completely level and firm ground.

What is the difference between a mast lift and a scissor lift?

While a scissor lift only travels vertically upwards and offers a large platform, the mast lift is considerably more compact. The decisive advantage of the mast lift (especially models with a jib) is its ability to reach over obstacles and to turn on its own axis in extremely narrow aisles. Mast lifts are the first choice when flexibility in the smallest space is required.

How high can you go with a mast lift?

In the Luibl rental range you will find mast lifts for a wide variety of requirements. The most common models reach working heights between 5 and 12 metres. This covers most maintenance and installation work in industrial halls, shopping centres or warehouses.

Are mast lifts suitable for outdoor use?

Most vertical mast lifts are designed for indoor use on level, paved floors. They have electric drives and non-marking tyres. However, there are special models approved for outdoor use, provided the surface is asphalt or concrete and there are no strong wind loads. For rough terrain we recommend our all-terrain telescopic boom lifts.

Does a mast lift fit through a normal door?

Yes, that is one of the main advantages. Many of our mast lifts are less than 1.00 metre wide (often only 75 to 80 cm) and have a low stowed height. This means they easily fit through standard industrial doors and can be transported to upper floors in goods lifts.

How long does the battery of an electric mast lift last?

As a rule, a full charge is sufficient for a standard 8-hour working day with normal use. At Luibl Rental you receive machines with modern batteries that can be charged overnight at any standard 230 V socket.

How much does it cost to rent a mast lift?

The costs depend on the rental period and the model chosen. Long-term rentals are available at Luibl Rental on particularly attractive terms. Ask about our project prices!

Do I need a special licence to rent a mast lift?

To operate a mast lift, professional instruction in line with applicable Dutch health and safety rules and an aerial work platform operator card (IPAF) are strongly recommended. Luibl Rental places great importance on safety; we competently instruct your staff in handling the rental machine on handover.

How much does a mast lift carry?

200 kg: that is the platform capacity of the mast lifts in the Luibl rental fleet at 10.00 to 12.65 m working height. For heavier loads or several people with material, scissor lifts with up to 1,134 kg capacity are the suitable alternative.
