Manitou forklift rental – rough-terrain, robust, ready for use
In 1958 Marcel Braud invented the first rough-terrain forklift in Ancenis, France — laying the foundation for the Manitou brand. Today the company produces one of the most versatile forklift portfolios on the market: rough-terrain forklifts of the M series for sites and yards, industrial forklifts of the MI series for indoor use, and heavy-duty variants for extreme tonnages. Luibl Rental rents out the Manitou forklift portfolio with load capacities from 3 to over 5 tonnes — supplemented by heavy-duty solutions on request. Four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, a free-view mast and ergonomic cabs make every Manitou forklift a specialist for demanding jobs. Choose the model that suits your logistics.
Which types of Manitou forklifts are there?
Manitou divides its forklift portfolio by operating environment. Three main lines cover the range:
-
Rough-terrain forklifts M series — Models such as the M30-4 (3 t) and M50-4 (5 t) are designed for unpaved sites, builders' yards, timber yards and outdoor storage. Permanent four-wheel drive (4×4), high ground clearance and oscillating axles ensure safe load handling even on gravel, grass and wet ground. These models are the typical choice for builders' merchants, main construction contractors, forestry and landscaping.
-
Industrial forklifts MI series — Counterbalance forklifts such as the MI 35 D ST5 with 3.5 tonnes load capacity and a Stage V diesel engine are designed for paved floors in halls, yards and logistics centres. Lower ground clearance, classic industrial tyres and a narrower design make manoeuvring in racking aisles easier. Available in the rental fleet with diesel, LPG and electric drive depending on operating conditions.
-
Semi-industrial models and heavy-duty variants — For mixed use on yards with an indoor share, Manitou offers semi-industrial forklifts. Luibl provides heavy-duty solutions beyond the 5-tonne class on request — if needed in combination with models from other manufacturers such as Kalmar or Hyundai, which cover the portfolio up to 18 tonnes.

-
Manitou M30-4 — 3-tonne rough-terrain forklift · 4x4 diesel, 3,000 kg load capacity, almost 5 m lift height, cornering control with speed-dependent throttling. Standard machine for builders' merchants, medium-sized sites and outdoor storage. → To the Manitou M30-4
-
Manitou M50-4 — 5-tonne rough-terrain forklift · 4x4 diesel, 5,000 kg load capacity, approx. 5 m lift height. Free-view mast, hydrostatic drive, lowering safety valve and anti-rollback. First choice for steel beams, heavy pallets, big bags and machine assemblies on unpaved ground. → To the Manitou M50-4
-
Manitou MI 35 D ST5 — 3.5-tonne industrial forklift · Diesel with Stage V engine, 3,500 kg load capacity, 4.80 m lift height. For everyday handling in halls, on paved yards and storage areas. Stage V allows use in emission-sensitive industrial zones. → To the Manitou MI 35 D ST5
-
Heavy-duty solution on request · If the 5-tonne limit is not enough, Luibl provides models up to 16 tonnes in the heavy-duty class (e.g. Kalmar DCG 160-12T). For heavy-duty Manitou applications (MHT series), Luibl combines telehandlers with fork carriages — the right solution for extreme point loads or unusual load centres. → View heavy-duty forklifts
Rough-terrain or industrial forklift — which Manitou fits?
Three factors determine the right choice. Calculating carefully here avoids wrong requests, delayed deliveries and above all safety risks from incorrectly sized machines.
-
Ground — Smooth, paved floors in halls or asphalted yards → MI series (industrial forklifts). Mixed conditions with indoor and outdoor use → semi-industrial models. Unpaved terrain, gravel, sand, mud, snow → M series (rough-terrain forklifts) with four-wheel drive.
-
Load capacity and load centre — Up to 2.5 t at 500 mm load centre → MI 25 / entry-level rough-terrain forklift. 3–3.5 t standard pallets → MI 35 D ST5 or M30-4. 5 t steel beams and heavy big bags → M50-4. Over 5 t or unusual load centre → heavy-duty class or telehandler. The rated capacity refers to the standard load centre; with long or overhanging loads the residual capacity drops significantly.
-
Duration of use and charging infrastructure — Multi-shift operation without charging breaks or without a fixed power supply → diesel. Indoor areas with food, pharma or cold-storage requirements → electric. Intermediate solution with outdoor and indoor use → LPG.
If in doubt, clarify briefly when discussing the quote — overloading and the wrong choice of drive are the most common causes of forklift accidents and consequential damage to floor and load.
Do you need a forklift or a yard loader?
Alongside forklifts, Manitou also produces telescopic wheel loaders (e.g. the MLA series), known as yard loaders. These machines have an articulated frame, a swing arm and can be combined with bucket, pallet forks, crocodile grab or grapple — typical applications are agriculture, recycling yards, timber storage and building materials logistics involving bulk material.
When a forklift, when a yard loader? If the task is primarily lifting and stacking pallets, containers or defined loads, a Manitou forklift is the more efficient choice — higher lift height, more precise positioning, lower rental costs. If bulk handling or the use of different attachments (bucket, grapple, manure fork) dominates, a yard loader or telescopic wheel loader is more suitable.
Luibl offers yard loaders and telescopic wheel loaders in its construction machinery range — speak to our dispatch team if you are undecided between the two categories. → View construction machinery
Which qualification is needed for a Manitou forklift?
The operation of forklifts with a driver's seat or driver's platform on Dutch company premises is clearly regulated. Three points are central:
-
Working Conditions Decree, Chapter 7 (work equipment) — Sets out the general safety requirements for the use of work equipment such as forklifts.
-
Demonstrable competence of the forklift operator (to be ensured by the employer) — The employer ensures that only competent and adequately instructed operators work with the forklift. What exactly this requires follows from applicable Dutch health and safety rules.
-
Machine-specific briefing — In addition to basic training, every operator must be briefed on the specific rental machine — load chart, controls, special features of the four-wheel steering modes.
-
Periodic inspection of work equipment under the Working Conditions Decree — All Luibl rental machines have a valid inspection certificate on delivery. For long-term rentals, Luibl carries out the follow-up inspection at no extra charge.
At every handover the operator receives a briefing on the rental machine — on your site if required.
In Austria, the AM-VO (Arbeitsmittelverordnung) and the AUVA requirements for operator qualification also apply; the German DGUV qualification is recognised in most cases, but a supplementary briefing is advisable.
What does a Manitou forklift from the rental fleet cost?
The daily rate for a Manitou forklift depends on model class, rental period and delivery distance. Three factors determine the final price:
-
Model class — A 3-tonne rough-terrain forklift has a significantly lower daily rate than a 5-tonne model or an MI 35 D ST5 with a Stage V engine. Heavy-duty classes from 10 t form a separate price segment.
-
Rental period — Daily rental (1–3 days) has the highest daily price. Weekly rental noticeably reduces the daily rate. Long-term rentals of three months or more usually include periodic inspection and maintenance in the price and bring the daily rate down to industrial level.
-
Delivery and accessories — Delivered by low-loader to your site, throughout the Netherlands. Attachments such as sideshift, fork positioner or rotator are calculated separately.
